Finding time for yourself as a mom is nearly impossible. You literally can't even use the restroom without your little ones looking for you. So if they can't even go to the bathroom alone, how are mommas supposed actually to get some self-care in?

This Mother's Day, we're giving you some tips and tricks on how to get your much-needed self-care time!

  1. Eat your heart out. Let yourself off the hook for a meal and eat those items on the menu that your tastebuds say yes to and your mind says, "but think about the calories." The truth is, one meal isn't going to make you gain weight, so we say: go for it. 

  2. Take a bath to start your day. Get in the tub before your little ones even wake up. If you're worried it might make you too tired, remember, your kids will definitely wake you up!

What mom doesn’t have a little stress in her life? Breathing exercises are a great way to release tension. For this exercise, we’re focusing on words — so, whatever makes you smile or feel zen, think about that. Examples: peace, release, or relax. Whatever word fits best right now, use it. You’ll be repeating this throughout your practice. 

Ready to get started? 

If you’ve never done a breathing exercise, start with a 10 minute session. The goal is to get to a point where you are dedicating 20 minutes to your breathing practice daily. This may seem like a lot of time, but let’s be honest, you deserve it! So find a quiet place (easier said than done, we know) and get into the zone. 

Here’s how to do it: 

  1. Sit or lie down in a comfortable place. 

  2. Bring your awareness to your breaths without trying to change how you’re breathing.

  3. Alternate between normal and deep breaths a few times. Notice any differences between normal breathing and deep breathing. Notice how your abdomen expands with deep inhalations. 

  4. Note how shallow breathing feels compared to deep breathing. 

  5. Practice your deep breathing for a few minutes. 

  6. Place one hand below your belly button, keeping your belly relaxed, and notice how it rises with each inhale and falls with each exhale. 

  7. Let out a loud sigh with each exhale. 

  8. Begin the practice of breath focus by combining this deep breathing with imagery and a focus word or phrase that will support relaxation. 

  9. You can imagine that the air you inhale brings waves of peace and calm throughout your body. Mentally say, “Inhaling peace and calm.”

  10. Imagine that the air you exhale washes away tension and anxiety. You can say to yourself, “exhaling tension and worry.”





If you ask a mom what their self-care routine is, there is a good chance they'll laugh directly in your face. Seriously: what working or stay-at-home mom has time to devote to herself when juggling a million different responsibilities and liable for keeping another living being (or multiple living beings!) alive, fed, happy, and clothed. 

While moms are saints who give and give and ask for little in return, we think they all deserve to be a little more selfish with their time and take more time for self-care. Self-care is all about giving your mind, body, and soul a moment to decompress from the constant activity of life. There’s nothing sweeter than cupcakes and flowers! And floral frosting is easier than you think. Whip these up for yourself or a loved one for true bliss.


  • 1 stick Softened Butter (optional: use the cannabutter recipe from our winter print issue to add some cannabis into the mix!) 

  • 1 cup Sugar

  • 1/2 tsp Almond Extract

  • 2 Large Eggs

  • 1 1/2 cup All Purpose Flour

  • 1 tsp Baking Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 cup Milk

  • 1/2 cup Butter

  • 3 cups Confectioners Sugar

  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract


  1. Preheat the Oven to 350 degrees and Line a cupcake pan

  2. Mix the butter, sugar, eggs, and extract in a stand mixer until smooth

  3. In a large bowl mix the dry ingredients together and sift

  4. Alternate the dry ingredients and milk into the creamed mixture

  5. Scoop into the liners and bake for 18 minutes, cool

  6. While cupcakes are baking, mix the frosting

  7. Cream the butter with confectioners sugar

  8. Add the extract

  9. Once the cupcakes are cool, get bowls for frosting to color. Add gel color into frosting with toothpick. Then decorate!

There are tons of tutorials online, however, we love these simple hydrangeas! You can use various colors to mix it up and create a gorgeous bouquet.
